Commons, 2010

Designed for the student Commons of Peninsula College in Port Angeles, Washington, “The Commons”, explores the idea of what we as a people, hold in common at various scales.  Scale models of the seven highest mountains in nearby Olympic National Park, (a UNESCO World Heritage site) were cast in aluminum and installed on the common in relative scale to each other.  A sharp comparison is made between a World Heritage site, (figuratively owned by world citizens) and the users and owners of the student commons.
Location:  Peninsula College, Port Angeles, WA
Materials: cast aluminum, basalt columns
Size: 5 units varying in height from 18” to 5’– 6”
Collaborator:  Sue Richards
